    I’ve begun to really crack down on my mare for spooky behavior and every time she tries to, she’s going to do trot laps and then I make her go back to the area where she spooked to begin with. It’s starting to feel like she’s spooking on purpose to get out of working.

      There really is no need to do a video. You basically take a ring snaffle bit, remove the reins and put it on the horse. Adjust the bit a little higher in the horse's mouth the first few times. Leave the bit on for 1 to 4 hours in 5 separate sessions before you ever ride with it.

    And some horses that are in and out of work that have spook issues have them resurface as you retake work. And they get distracted and as they loose attention to the person become spookier and if that works for them a few times to end work they can apply it, they know when i spook work ends. But the ways to solve it is what you layed out.

    I trained my horse and that included training him on one rein stops. We do not do them regularly now but I know if I ever need it I have that in my back pocket. I recently attended a clinic and the clinician feels that training one rein stops on a horse is a bad idea because they learn to ignore it or they learn how to run with their heads bent around. He recommended never training it on a horse, but practicing yourself with a set of reins attached to something. I kinda see where he's going but I'm not sure I fully buy it, because I feel like if you haven't taught the horse how to give laterally like that, the one rein stops WON'T work when you need it. Curious for your thoughts on this.

    • @ltrocha
      @ltrocha 26 дней назад

      I also do NOT recommend teaching a horse the one-rein stop via the natural horsemanship method. They take the horse's head away and ALSO try to kick his hindquarters out of gear. I don't do that. Your clinician is talking about horses who have accidentally been taught how to "rubber neck". I don't do that either. I DO LIKE COMMON SENSE horse training.

    • @embriettehyde8048
      @embriettehyde8048 26 дней назад

      @@ltrocha got it! So, instead, if I work on having a horse soft and responsive vertically and laterally, the one rein stop will happen (if and when needed) even if they haven't been trained on it specifically, is that right?

    There’s so much truth to that! Some people believe confidence comes from having a well behaved horse, but it does actually come from having control of your horse in any situation because even if they are trained and behave well they are still a horse, and can be fresh or spook at something and knowing that you can stop the horse from reacting and quickly bring them back to thinking things through is key, but this doesn’t come easy, time, lessons, education, and effort are going to be needed from the rider, Thanks Larry always love watching ❤
